The Combat Assault Battalion from Marine Corps Base Quantico came out July 10 to build our new location. The Marines installed insulation and drywall, filled holes, cleaned the concrete in the warehouse and removed flooring.
As these Marines demonstrated their commitment to not only helping protect our Constitution by defending our nation, they have also exemplified their mission to build a better community for the greater Fredericksburg area.
Captain Andrew Fassett from New York has been active duty for six years. A previous volunteer with Habitat, Fassett enjoyed building the ReStore knowing that he had the ability to contribute to the success of our organization.
Building out the ReStore was a success, but the battalion showed great interest in wanting to start building the homes for our two veteran families.
Sergeant Tim Harpe, of Ohio, has been active duty for five years and a first time volunteer with Habitat, but he believes in our mission.
After Sergeant Harpe learned about our goal to start building Veterans Day, Nov. 11, he was empowered to help as soon as possible.
“We want to build a house and we want to build one soon.” said Sergeant Harpe.
