Americorps and National Service

Want to be a part of Habitat for Humanity, but don’t have much experience?

AmeriCorps is often referred to as the domestic version of the Peace Corps. Members serve at nonprofits, schools, public agencies, and community groups around the country. AmeriCorps members are bright and motivated people with a passion for service, many of whom are changing careers, preparing for a degree, or taking a break to do something different.

AmeriCorps programs do more than move communities forward; they serve their members by creating jobs and providing pathways to opportunity for young people entering the workforce. AmeriCorps places thousands of young adults into intensive service positions where they learn valuable work skills, earn money for education and develop an appreciation for citizenship. Becoming an AmeriCorps member provides you the opportunity to work at Habitat for Humanity and support access to safe and affordable housing.
Greater Fredericksburg Habitat for Humanity is proud to host AmeriCorps members on our construction teams and within our program staff. We work hard to partner with our members to promote their career goals, help them gain relevant experience, and dedicate themselves to service. Applications are competitive and members are treated as members of our staff.

View the AmeriCorps Flyer here to get more information or visit Habitat International’s website to learn more about AmeriCorps. National members work directly with families, volunteers, and in the community. VISTA members work to develop processes and help the organization grow.

Both programs come with a stipend from AmeriCorps, a financial award to be applied to educational costs or debt, and support and training from AmeriCorps and Habitat for Humanity International. Applicants apply for specific positions at specific organizations, so members are free to try to serve in a new community or work to help neighbors in their hometown.
