Press Release: 1st Greater Fredericksburg Habitat for Humanity Women Build Social

5/1/2013 –In honor of National Women Build week, GFHFH will begin preparations for our 1st “Women Build”. We are recruiting women leaders in the Fredericksburg area to form a task force to lead the charge. Women builds are Habitat homes built mostly by women volunteers and women contractors. Join us May 9th from 7pm-9pm at our offices located at 4755 Jeff Davis Hwy at our social, we will explain the program and answer any questions you have.

Women are leaders in all aspects of community life, including many in the construction fields. This is a great opportunity for those who have not built but wish to challenge themselves with new adventures all while giving back by changing the life of a family and making homeownership possible. This is the local Habitat Affiliates 1st “Women Build” so it’s breaking new ground!

This is important because of the families in our program working to become Habitat homeowners. Our motto is “A Hand up not a Hand Out”, and we have a family who has met their requirements for us to begin construction of their home. This also helps inspire young women to know they can build anything, be it a house or something entirely different.

GFHFH serves families that often slip through the cracks and are unable to purchase a home through traditional means. By partnering with us they volunteer 500 hours and purchase the home with 0% interest loan.

The Fredericksburg Habitat operates in the City of Fredericksburg and the Counties of Stafford, Spotsylvania and King George. We serve a large number of families in need. Established in 1995, we construct homes for deserving families as well as doing home repair projects. We help to offset costs through contributions, donated materials and volunteer labor. Donations come from individuals, churches, local businesses and corporations. Our volunteers come from every walk of life from school children, housewives, blue/white-collar workers, professionals to retirees.
