History

The Greater Fredericksburg Habitat for Humanity was chartered by Habitat for Humanity International, Inc. on July 5, 1995 by a group of concerned citizens who were drawn together to provide  adequate low cost housing for residents of the City of Fredericksburg, Spotsylvania and Stafford Counties. King George County was added to our charter in 2006.

Work Continues

The Greater Fredericksburg Habitat for Humanity believes that everyone deserves a simple, decent and safe place to live. We rely on the support of volunteers and donors to accomplish our mission. Their efforts have  resulted in substantial tangible outcomes: As of 2012, 17 homes have been constructed since our first family selection in August 1996. In the initial year of “A Brush with Kindness” program 25 home repair projects were completed. Our long-term strategic plan envisions building, refurbishing or remodeling 5 houses per year by fiscal year 2015.

ReStore – Humble Beginnings

In 2001, we started receiving donations of building materials and home furnishings for resale. Our store operated on one Saturday each month holding a “Yard Sale.” In 2004, the ReStore began operating during the week and hired a full-time manager to run the store. The store has been such a success that we plan to expand to a larger facility in the near future.
