The mission of Habitat for Humanity’s Women Build program is to recruit and empower women to build and advocate for simple, decent and affordable houses in their communities. In 2014 we completed our very first local Women Build home in honor of Brenda Wiberg. 80 percent of the home was built completely by female volunteers.
The second Women Build home will be built in honor of Ms. Barbara Geslock. Geslock was a civic-minded, family-oriented, caring woman whose willingness to help others of all ages was a lifelong mission.
She increased her community activities after retirement, co-founding the Women’s Resource Center and the Shelter for Abused Women, paving the way for today’s operation known as Empowerhouse.
Women Build has raised almost $7,000 and received a $5,000 grant from Lowes, who also sponsors National Build Week, putting them at a total of $12,000. If you are interested in working with Women Build, please email Mary Beth Rich at email@example.com.
